Wellness exams are critical to helping your pet maintain good health and to making sure they are happy, comfortable, and mobile.
Combined with regular vaccinations, parasite prevention, and proper nutrition, these routine examinations include regular physical checkups to give your pet the best chance at excellent lifelong health.
Adult dogs require preventive care and proactive intervention to maintain their health. Yearly exams with vaccination updates are a must. Dogs should be checked for dental disease, skin growths, cardiac function, abdominal tumors, eye abnormalities, and any form of lameness. Fecal exams are also required to ensure your dog is parasite-free.
Adult cats should visit the vet annually for vaccination updates, a review of their diet and eating habits, and a medical evaluation. Since cats are stoic animals and often do not show discomfort until issues have progressed, it is very important that they have complete physical exams each year.
What You Can Expect at Your Pet's Examination
At Voorhees Veterinary Center, your vet will give your four-legged friend a thorough physical checkup in order to get a complete picture of their overall health, and to look for any easy-to-miss signs of developing health concerns. Your pet's routine wellness exam will include the following elements:
General Condition
Your pet's general demeanor and physical condition provide your vet with vital clues to their overall health. How your pet stands and walks, their level of alertness, and whether they are a healthy weight are all important indicators of overall health.
Coat & Skin
During your pet's checkup, we will examine their skin and coat for signs of problems, including excessive oiliness or dryness, lumps, bumps, dandruff, or abnormal hair loss or shedding.
Face & Head
Your pet's eyes, ears, and nose will be examined for abnormalities or discharge. We will also check the mouth for symptoms of oral health problems such as plaque buildup or periodontal disease.
Internal Health
Heart rate and rhythm, pulse, and blood pressure are vitally important indicators of your pet's heart health. We'll test these to ensure they're normal. The lungs will then be examined for evidence of abnormal breathing.
Lymph nodes will be checked for pain or swelling, and we will also examine the abdomen to ensure the intestines, kidneys, bladder, spleen, liver, and stomach all feel normal, and that your pet is not exhibiting any signs of discomfort.
Review of Findings
At the end of your pet's routine wellness exam, your vet will take the time to discuss any concerns they may have about your cat or dog's overall health and talk to you about their nutritional requirements.
Checkups for Puppies & Kittens

We'll give your young furry friend a complete physical examination, appropriate immunizations, and deworming medication. We will also test for intestinal parasites.

Vaccinations & Prevention
During your pet's veterinary checkup at our animal hospital in Voorhees, the vet will also check whether your animal requires preventive care, or if they are due for any routine vaccinations.
